Music is Not Your Most Important Asset! Branding 101 for Musicians
This post accompanies the

the podcast (http://bit.ly/2LNZu5J ) for Gab & Jam Episode 7.
Psst! Let me let you in on a little secret......
Your music is NOT your most important asset. I know this may come as a complete shock to some of you, while others of you will already know this to be true. What’s more important than your music is your grit and tenacity; that is, if you want to realize any success—even success on your own terms—in the landscape of your music career. Ever wonder how so many seemingly crappy songs end up on the radio? It’s likely that the songwriter (or artist or producer) had a lot of grit and put in all this other stuff that we’re about to lay out to you today. I promise you that it had more to do with their hustle than with their art.
Like it or not, you’re a business owner....
Like it or not, you’re a business owner, who sells your music. That is WHO you are, if you plan to make any money off of or even ever plan to have your music heard. Therefore—like it or not, again—you will need to familiarize yourself with ways to run your business better. HOW you going about doing that is by understanding your vision first. (If you aren’t familiar with the concept of a vision, please start here, then come back.)

After your vision is set, you can begin to chip away at your goals that will help that vision come to life.
Branding is essential...
Branding is an essential component to helping you achieve those goals. I could almost hear a collective sigh when you heard the term “branding,” but it just means the manner (or tone) in which your image, message, music, etc. is conveyed.
