Should D.I.Y. Rock Star have blogs? We’ll discuss some 4 benefits for maintaining your own blog.
Our guest today, Zandalee Indigo, is not only a fellow creative, but she has run how own blog for 4 years now. As a relatively new blogger, she shares her top tips for anyone considering starting a blog.
Check out the episode for the full discussion.
Here are our top 4 benefits of having a blog (as a D.I.Y. Rock Star): ⭐️
1. I love to talk.
Zandalee says she has a lot of thoughts, feelings, and ideas running through her head at all times. Having a blog is a way to consolidate and share those feelings more easily. Since these are ideas that she discusses with friends and family, she figured that she may as well share them with the wider public. We have a similar reason to blog continuously. For us, we want to share our ideas AND we want to draw people to our other branded content, like our YouTube channel, our podcast, and, of course, our music. Blogging weekly allows us to scratch ALL of those itches at the same time, which is great.

2. You have your own website
There’s something incredibly freeing and convenient to not being married to a platform like Twitter or even Medium or Substack. –As you know, social media companies are sold and change their focus and method of sharing, but as a blogger, you have total control on the look and feel of your blog and can seriously curate readers' experiences. Your content on your own website can stay on their forever and won’t get deleted, because someone is not happy and reports your content. Discussing topics like fighting anxiety and stress can get your content flagged and/or deleted. And, as I have shared SO many times before, I am usually in Facebook jail for sharing too often to Facebook groups, so the ONE place where I KNOW I can share is on our own blog our own website.

3. You can follow your own timeline
Similarly, having an independent platform means you can post whenever you want, whether you’re someone who likes to publish pieces regularly or someone who only posts intermittently. We believe in following our energetic flow, so, if we have been struck by the muse, we can create a crazy ton of content, but if you’re not feeling it, you can push your publication interval back. That’s a HUGE advantage, because sometimes, we have multiple priorities in a month and we don’t have to fret about trying to keep up with a publication schedule is not working for a particular time period.
In THIS post, we tell you 7 reasons why having a website is better than simply posting on social media.
4. Gives fans a reason to visit your website
Finally, as a D.I.Y. Rock Star, including a blog as a part of your website gives people a reason to visit your website. They can find out all your latest news right on the front page through said blog. Further, blog posts can help you highlight your latest releases, your shows, and your merch by blogging about them. THIS is a much easier way to sell than by saying “Hey, go buy my shit!” For instance, you can have a more natural, behind-the-scenes kinda post that talks about the process or the launch or folks’ responses, etc. So, again, putting up a blog post as a part of your artist website is a way to update your people on the latest news right on the front page of your website.
