340. Goals for 2025 (for these D.I.Y. Rock Stars)

Even though THIS year has been out of pocket and INCREDIBLY weird, we are still reflecting on the past and still deciding on what we want to focus on this coming year.

Check out the episode for the full discussion.

Natural reset:

As you know, we decide on our goals for the year in the season of the “natural reset,” in the reflective time between Thanksgiving, Christmas, and the New Year. And even though THIS year has been out of pocket and INCREDIBLY weird, we are still reflecting on the past and still deciding on what we want to focus on this coming year.

Vision Boards?

—Needless to say, the plan is to update our Vision Board to reflect the following goals. (If you want MORE on the benefits of creating a Vision Board for the D.I.Y. Rock Star and tips on creating and updating your Vision Board, check out the links below.)

Goals:

First, we will share a few goals that we have as a partnership and then, we’ll share a few individual, personal goals.

—You MIGHT remember that we started Gab & Jam in 2017–so, we’re going on 8 years now—and though THIS year, we reached 105k subscribers on YouTube, THIS has ALSO been the LEAST active, as far as content creation (due to factors beyond our control). But now that recovery is going SO well, we are READY to look forward to seeing what we’d like to accomplish. So, here are the partnership goals that we want to accomplish in 2025:

Partnership Goals:

1.  Next album

We’d like to begin thinking about—and working on—the next album.   –Along with that is figuring out what the sound is going to be, which is always exciting and terrifying at the same time.  –But that’s the first thing we want to start experimenting with.

2.  Nurturing our community

Even though this has been quite a strange time—where we have HAD to put communicating with folks on the back burner—we realize how IMPORTANT it is to continue to nurture the people who are signing up for our email list and joining our Facebook groups. So, one of the returning goals is to STAY consistently communicating with them (in the form of the monthly newsletter, responding to messages, etc.). –Back in the 1980s, when we sought out a major label record deal, all we REALLY wanted to do was to find people who liked our music and who wanted to hear MORE from us.  Well, our artist mentoring funnel has helped us achieve that.  And even 4 years later—without ANY real tweaking—these Facebook ads CONTINUE to bring people in.  Once they listen to our music, they have the option to join the email list, so we KNOW when we receive a notification that they want to be added to the list, we feel grateful, honored, and gratified that we are on the right path.  So, making sure that we communicate with these individuals regularly is VERY important to us.  We want to do MORE of that in this new year.

3.  Travel more

We had taken our tax return money and took the family to Paris, France in 2017 and to London, England in 2018.  Needless to say, we ceased international travel at the onset of the pandemic.  As things began to open back up, we spent more time exploring the USA—places like Nashville and Chicago (see Travel Adventures playlist)—but now that the world has learned to live with Covid, we are hoping that we might be able to embark on international travel again, so that’s on our list for partnership goals for this year. –ALSO, I started writing our travel book for the D.I.Y. Rock Star, so I would LOVE to add more to that this year….

Bruce’s goals:

1.  Fitness

While we are not quite getting the number of steps that we got PRIOR to Bruce’s big, scary health crisis, we are continuing to work to get a set number of steps each day and to work on other fitness goals, including adding in some strength training.

2.  Playing the bass

As you may already know, as a part of Bruce’s recovery, he is getting back acquainted with the mechanics of playing the bass and he’s excited about that.  This means that he wants to spend more time diving back in.

3.  Songwriting

Getting back to songwriting is important.  Due to the intense focus on the basics in life, we have been away from the daily routine of songwriting.  However, now that we are at a better place in our recovery, we are planning to add songwriting back into our regular practice.

Vox’s goals:

1.  Weight/shape

Though Bruce CONSISTENTLY tells me how wonderful I look and about how I don’t need to change a change a thing, I feel as if I need to work on my weight/shape.  I have lost weight BEFORE and can do better again, but I am ready to get started.  –I realize that NOONE would blame me, given the crazy year that we’ve had, but I am NOT happy with MYSELF.  –I want to feel better, overall, and wear the things that I like and I want to feel attractive in them, so I KNOW that I need to trim some inches for this to work.  Taking better care of my nutrition and exercise will help me achieve this goal.

2.  Music promotion

Getting back to promoting the Obtanium Flow and Thrillsville albums are at the top of my list.  –Whether we EVER create anything new or not, I realize that we have some GREAT music that has NOT be shared with enough people and it is my goal to change that.  –When the BIG, scary health challenge happened, I dropped EVERYTHING—as you can imagine—but since we are doing SO much better and I am able to turn my attention to other things, I want to be sure to the world hears the REST of the two albums that we had just released, so before January is over, I want to be sure that the “Daylight” video is released and the “Thrillsville” album is uploaded to all the streaming services.

3.  Collaborating again

Because this past year has been SOLELY focused on Bruce’s health and wellness, collaborating on everything had taken a back seat.  I have missed it SO much that I am looking forward to working with Bruce on new songs, video ideas, podcast topics, etc. –After all, we met through music and have been “collaborating,” in a sense, ever since.  So, this period of time has been really strange, because creating together had been taken out of the equation altogether.  I am happy to see that we heading back to exploring our creative core, which has ALWAYS included collaboration.  I am ready for MORE of it, so I am setting the intention right now.

4.  Curate with intention

While I had THOUGHT of doing this before, I couldn’t quite bring myself to do the work.  But now, I am ready to create playlists on related posts and topics.  Such lists would be perfect for email sequences, for website navigation purposes, and for literal YouTube playlists.  What’s more is that we DEFINITELY have enough related material now—after nearly 8 years—that we feel confident that we can compile lists that might benefit someone looking for insight on certain topics.  –Online marketers stress how important it is to be of value to the community you serve, so THIS seems like an easy way to do just that.  Therefore, I have plans to put this plan in action.
