What’s great about Janet Jackson as a date night concert is that it’s the closest thing to a “jukebox date.” What I mean is that there are so many songs that bring back memories from the 80s, the 90s, and stumbling our way up to now. Not only are we tripping through HER old hits, but we are reliving moments in our lives together. –For instance, we used to have a cat–named “Cecelia”--who LOVED watching the “Love Will Never Do” Janet Jackson video. The cat would, literally, STOP what she was doing to park herself in front of the screen to watch THIS music video. 😳 This was SO out of character for her that it has created a moment in our relationship timeline. 💁🏾

-–So, it’s NOT just that we grew up with Janet Jackson–as “Penny” from Good Times–but it is also that she has followed up throughout our lives and has felt as if we have “touched bases” at several points; just traveling on a parallel continuum. Maybe this is one reason that it made sense to make it a point to get out to see her when she came through Detroit. 💁🏾

—And you know what? She DIDN’T disappoint. She did her greatest hits–which included MY favorites, “If” and “Pleasure Principle”--and also included some of Bruce’s favorites, like “Rhythm Nation”--AND one that is BOTH of our favorites, her rendition of “Scream” (with a music video–and cameo–from her dearly-departed brother, Michael Jackson). –-THAT was the sad part.

–But the GOOD part was that she kept the party going by having a quad of terrific male dancers, several costume changes, and quite the share of audience interaction. –In fact, the ONLY bleak spot in the evening was dealing with the accommodations at LCA. –This is our THIRD major concert and we have found that there is NO good seat in the house! 🙄 –So, we were in the middle of the floor–which is a QUITE hefty price–but were still not really able to see (as you can tell from our vlog footage) AND the labeling of the floor seats is chalk marks on a concert floor AND crowd control took us WAAAAY out of the way to exit (as we attempted to duck out before the encore). –All in all, we have decided to opt for ANY OTHER FUCKING PLACE, but LCA when deciding whether or not to go to a concert! –But NONE of that was Janet Jackson’s fault…

–All in all, we give our date night an 8 (on a 10 point scale) and enjoyed our time together.
